If the Avs are still struggling at the end of Rantanen’s ninth game, and I mean juggling linemates, getting shelled shot-wise, losing the corsi battle by cavernous margins, not playing 60 minutes a night, struggling, Then I don’t want Rantanen anywhere near that. Rants existence on this roster takes it from mediocre to a bit less mediocre. Let him go down to an SA team that is killing it, and let him be a part of a winning culture, instead of miring in the woe-is-me attitude the Avs roster seems to have when they face adversity. The minors are there for a reason, and traditional wisdom is that you bring a guy up slowly unless he’s a game changer. Just because Rantanen has the ability to keep up with NHL players, doesn’t mean it suits his development. Look at Nyquist, look at Nylander, both could hang with NHL players a good while before graduation to the NHL (Nylander is still in the A), but neither Detroit nor Toronto has/is in a hurry to bring him up. Protect the kid and send him down at the end of his nine games, and tell him “it’s not you, it’s us”, because I’m not sold on the “Duchene, Landeskog, MacKinnon went straight to the NHL and they’re fine” line. Sure they’re fine skill wise, and they’re typically fine on the stat sheet, but you have to wonder, Duchene in particular, if they wouldn’t be a bit mentally stronger had they not been thrown into the fray as the saviors of this franchise. I mean, I love the guy, but I wonder if Duchene even enjoys himself out there anymore.

If he’s not getting minutes ,what’s the point of keeping him up.And I can’t say I’ve seen anything special from this kid yet.
Definitely not top 6 worthy.Just because there’s no alternative doesn’t mean he should be rushed

I’m not sure I’ve seen enough to burn his first year either, especially with the limited TOI. I think they need to focus more on getting the most out of Grigorenko right now than they do Rantanen. This is a make or break year for Grigorenko and he’s not a 4th line center. If they aren’t going to give the kid a real opportunity then they should try and trade him or put him on waivers and move on. Maybe there’s a plan of progression that I’m not seeing yet. I share the same frustration regarding Gormley – it’s brutal watching this kid get scratched in favor of Guenin and Stuart.
