I would have a serious problem with this team if they trade Duchene. They are asking people to take hometown discounts and want to play here, and when someone does (Matt), they trade him? Why would anyone else agree to a discount if it only gets them traded?

I like the idea of trading Varly, especially it if means keeping Duchene, and even getting another center. Every year, Varly re-injures his groin and is out for 2 weeks. Every year his stats get progressively worse. He has been an awesome goalie, but his future looks fuzzier all the time.

If they’re dead set on trading a core member Varlamov is the guy, but I have serious reservations about giving Pickard the starting job. I think Varlamov is far and away more talented than Pickard.

I agree but Varly has been inconsistent and injured. It’s happened early in the year and both times the Avs have struggled to get going. It cost them at the end of the season. Granted his injury was far from the only reason for the slow start but still, 2 years in a row it has happened.

“On November 12, Darren Dreger of TSN had stated that Joe Sakic had reached out to the Ottawa Senators to gauge what they’d offer up in return for Matt Duchene.”

If this is really the way it played out, Sakic is stupid. It puts him in a weak negotiating position. I don’t believe Sakic is stupid, so I call BS on Dreger. It may have been Sakic approached Ottawa about a player or two and Duchene is what they wanted in return. This is entirely believable but less spectacular (click-inducing) than what is quoted here.

Trading Duchene is an all around losing scenario. He’s a 65-70 point guy when given proper linemates. Yes he goes on hot and cold streaks but he’s clearly offensively elite. Avs almost certainly lose in any trade with Duchene going the other way.

I’d be pissed to see Dutchy go. I’d be fine with Landy going but agree that he’s better with us than anything we could get in return. You convinced me that trading Barrie and Varly could be huge for the Avs. I’m tired of Newports BS. I want Barrie to be here for years but if they get a huge return, trade him now. And Varly can’t stay healthy. Picks is the future.
