Over the last 3 years I can’t even count the number of times something has happened and I thought, Landy should have been net front on that shot, Landy wouldn’t let that guy get away with bullying Sammy G, Landy would’ve won that puck battle, etc. In short, Landy is exactly what the team has been missing since his absence began. I’ll be so happy to see him out there this season.

I also think Landy being around takes some of the pressure off of Val to try to be those things and it should elevate his game.

I’m going to split the difference between AJ and Rudo and say 110 points. And a Cup. Bring it on

The one prediction Rudo and I completely agree with is 16 postseason wins

I’ve been saying the same thing! We’ve missed Landy in so many ways and I’m so glad we have him back for a whole season (hopefully). It does feel like the vibes and chemistry are really strong this year and they have two of the top OGWAC for some extra motivation with Nelson and Burns chasing the cup.

I also wanted to mention that I think it’s cool that even after trading away Byram, Newhook, and Helleson the Avs are still looking to get contributions from 2 of their 2019 draftees here in the 25-26 season

Hate to be negative, but too many old. tired, washed up players. I say 50-50 to make the playoffs and then another first round exit if they do. Not nearly enough youth, energy etc.

I can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not… Like, it can’t be a serious take that a team with two of the top 5 fastest skaters (MacK and Necas) and Cale Makar (bringing electricity to the ice every night) is labeled as “not enough energy?”
50% chance at playoffs? You’re definitely pulling our leg and baiting a response like mine, right?
Regarding the lack of youth, is that just because of Nelson and Burns? Burns is 3rd pair D so we’re not exactly asking him to be youthful. I mean we won the cup with a very old Jack Johnson in a similar role. Nelson could be an issue if he drops off but he was clearly still able to hang in the playoffs last year (see impressive xG numbers above in AJ’s article). For reference, the Avs are tied with Edmonton for 23rd youngest. Toronto, Vegas, Florida, LAK, and Winnipeg are all older but should be formidable teams.

AJ – wow, what an in-depth season preview. It’s clear you spent a lot of time preparing this and its much appreciated. I especially like all the quotes from team management/scouts outside of the Avs. It is truly a blessing to root for and watch guys like Makar every game.

Just read this one game into the new season. Excellent read and review of the entire roster. I’ll continue cheering for the Avs on the tube and the Spokane Chiefs locally. Go Avs!
