AJ, the post game was awesome. Especially you talking with Eric LaCroix, who was the most informative, talkative, good listen I’ve heard from an ex-player not saying the tried and true, heard it a million times, things.

Your challenge on McDermid and talk of MacK not being Sakic yet in clutch playoff goal scoring, with his takes on what it takes to have that champion confidence/thing…his reference to all the Montreal greats and our fortune to get the Roy/Lemieux swagger…was outstanding. The other DNVR dudes quieted down, while you spoke up! Kudos, man, I loved it!

Talk of getting that one guy or in TB’s case of getting Goodrow/Coleman, or as LaCroix said..the whiskey…it’s still what the Avs lack, and not getting from the likes of a Jost or a Compher. We do need someone to spike the mix up, and although he referred to McDermid as the whiskey type of player, I, like you, cannot dismiss how horrible McDermid plays.

Pierre did not build that team. He inherited it, with the exception of the Roy trade which was really the highlight of his career here. His drafts were horrible and so were most of his trades, the Rob Rehger for Theo Fleury being the one that bothered me the most. When he left finally we didn’t have enough prospects to even have an AHL team and we had wallowed in mediocrity for over ten years.

What you say is true and I feel the same way, but he made the trades fir Roy, Sandis, Bourque , and Blake that put us over the top. Having been a fan if Denver hockey since the 60s, its great to have those cups to look back on. It sounds like Pierre was a much loved and great man to work with. Very worthy of being remembered and honored.

I can’t believe this team is in a situation with the cap where when a guy or 2 is out we have to send people down to call up cheaper options or not field a full line up. Booerns

Nice read, AJ…
every year, there are some games where the goalie has to step up to carry the team to a win. That type of effort from Kuemper wasn’t needed for this game though. Simple solid play and stopping the ones he should have would’ve/could’ve given the Avs a W.
So I was disappointed in Kuemper’s play.

I thought there were pretty big chunks of play that were sloppy and disjointed. That was expected when I saw the lineup. But I did enjoy that the Avs kept digging.

The post game pod was a treat. I got a giggle when Footer contradicted Goulet’s take on the game. And kudos to you for voicing your opinion on McDermid.
Big props to DNVR for showing love and support for the Lacroix Hockey and honoring Pierre.
