Less excited about him playing if Uncle Bob is right and that exposes him in the expansion draft.

“Eligible” and “exposed” seem awfully different to me. The Avalanche will choose who to expose, and it won’t be Makar, whether he’s eligible or not. Barring 2 years of sucking, naturally.

He’ll of course be protected. Sucks it gets to that but here we are. Sometimes you have to live the moment.

Can they protect 5 D under the 8 skaters rule?

It seems to me that the best thing to do is give him a little time and see how things go in practice etc. Seems tough on team chemistry to have a young guy come in without some time to meld with the team. Will he really make a difference in this seven game series?
“To be or not to be that is the question.”

I agree. Have a lot of doubts as to how much help he will actually be right now.

Realistically, the Avs are not winning the cup this year. Why burn the year to just maybe win one or even two rounds? Seriously, what’s the advantage? I want to see him in an Avs sweater as much as anyone…but why sacrifice the future for minimal gains?

Why is winning playoff rounds, something this organization hasn’t accomplished since 2008, considered meaningless? Seriously. Even if they “only” get to the second round, why doesn’t that have value? From an organization that had a 48-point season TWO YEARS AGO we’re sitting here WORRIED about winning playoff ROUNDS?

Honestly the biggest reason it’s meaningful is for the players themselves. That’s a huge confidence boost and a reassurance that they do in fact belong in the conversation. While it means nothing to us as fans in the long term – it means Everything to the players.

Definitely 11 forwards and 7 d-men. Nemeth has been good last part of regular season and playoffs so far. Bednar has also been constantly benching forwards first to games anyway.
Two reasons to play Makar. Maybe he can help the team, maybe he can be a big help even a difference maker. When you’re in the playoffs you go all in, that’s a no brainer for me. Teams don’t fight to get to the playoffs so they could say ”oh well we’re not going to win this year”. They do it because in the playoffs everything is possible. What’s the team in the West now anyway that would be so unbeatable for the Avs? I don’t think there is one.
Second, teams burn that year of for a reason. It’s becoming a trend so that it makes the next contract more affordable. For example think what it would have cost the Avs to re-sign Mikko Rantanen after last season compared to what it’s going to cost them after this season. Had they played Rants one more game that first season they’d have him on a much cheaper contract right now. Montreal just did this with Poehler. They didn’t actually play him to score a hattrick and a shootout winner in a meaningless game just to amuse fans.
