Best avalanche article I’ve read in a long while

Very nice article, thanks for sharing. Maybe Soderberg was late for a meeting? A man in his position should be thankful that anyone is taking an interest in obtaining his autograph, it’s likely to have a short shelf life.

Picks is looking like a very good find and I’m glad he’s getting a chance to prove his skills.

It wouldn’t shock me if Sods had other plans. Many moons ago I took my son down to Pepsi Center during the Avs playoff runs in 01. He was 7, and loved his Avs. Down by the player parking lot, we saw Roy come out. He basically ignored us. He had a couple people with him, but just completely ignored the crowd. I figured he just didn’t want to be bothered with us. A few nights later we went back, and he came out and embraced the crowd graciously. I’m guessing he had family with him the previous evening. But that 2nd night he talked to my son and made him feel welcome and special. Even joked with him. “Who’s your favorite Av? “Joe Sakic” “Wrong answer. Try again”. :).

It’s always good to get some views like this. It’s too bad more of the BSN writers don’t go to practices like this. Broncos get practice coverage all the time, but it seems like all anyone covers of practice is “Player X didn’t practice today”.

IMHO JD has done a great job trying to give perspective and insight all year. He’s a big reason I come here. Keep it up!!

Ha, I think it’s great that your son spent a little face time with Roy. It’s those kind of memories that can spark a lifelong dedication to a team.

Agreed that this is a great article and JD lifts the curtain on the real team. I’m new to BSN, but I’m loving the content so far.

Thanks for the kind words! I hope we can bring more insight as BSN grows.

As for Soderberg, he could very well have had an appointment. I wasn’t trying to judge, just report the experience. Not every professional athlete enjoys interacting with fans and if he’s one of those guys, that’s ok. I still think he’s been a good addition to the Avalanche.

And yeah, Pickard impressed me with his attitude.
