They still played like doo doo butter tonight. The team as a whole needs to play better. Getting Cale back is going to be a massive massive difference.

They are exhausted. Too many minutes for the stars all season.

Start with too short an off-season to heal anything. They won the central, let’s regroup and heal for next year.

Very well said and I think what we were all feeling. Except the conclusion at the end. I think everything stated in your article points to them being mentally exhausted. Sure, physically they’ve got to be wiped too, but they are hockey players and can grind physically when needed. But to do so, the mind has to be wiling to push. Last night showed me a team that was not their mentally. Lack of focus led to missed passes, defensive assignments, puck watching, and then a general lack of drive led to low intensity, kind of waiting for someone else to provide a spark.

Usually, when that has happened to this team in the past, Landy steps up and provides that spark. He is the one that never looks around and waits for the moment to drive, he creates it. So, on top off all the issues during the season, and then the playoff saga Jesse described, you’re also missing your leader out on the ice that has historically set the tone and jump started a response.

Gut check time now, we’ll really see what they’re made of. Bednar said at the end of the season that this group is scrappy and willing to fight. Now we will see. I know they can do it, and really want something to celebrate after all this. Go AVS!

They are totally spent. The Val saga is a big blow. I will be surprised if they pull the rabbit out of the hat and win the series. If they do, round two will probably be just as ugly. Not feeling too good about this playoff run.
