> Duncan Siemens, who has played so well of late, turned the puck over along the wall to Matthew Tkachuk, who fed it in front to Frolik for a tap-in. Things looked bleak as hell at that moment.

Actually Siemens did the same thing as Barrie and turned it over to Backlund, who fed Tkachuk in front, who passed across to Frolik for the goal. It was good to see that Bednar still trusted him with key ice time later in the game.

about that Siemens cross-check – I thought the Flames had similar cross-checks from the D-Men, about 6 or so. They play with a “lay the lumber on them – they can’t call them all” philosophy, except in this case, none of them were called. If a team plays physical like that all the time, the refs figure “it’s just them being them”. When a less physical team like the Avalanche lay the lumber on someone, it stands out and results in a trip to the pit of misery. Dilly! dilly!!

Fun win but have to say that whole embellishment/misconduct call on Gaudreau may have saved our bacon. We were staring at a 5 on 3 for 45 seconds if not for that call. For all the complaining fans do about refs screwing the Avs we have nothing to complain about on that one.

That Siemens cross check call was mega-weak and an obvious “make-up” call. NHL officiating is unbelievable horrific and hard to figure out, it seems to change on a game-by-game basis. It’s clear the players have no idea what’s allowed anymore and it’s ruining the game, IMO. And I agree with Gary, the Flames were cross checking us all over the ice and getting away with it. They’ve really turned into a douche-y team.
