Great article AD. I love it when you call me “kid” 🙂 I know I’m going to sound like a broken record here, but considering the circumstances, the Avs are CRAZY not to have re-signed/extended Bernie awhile back. Absolutely insane, considering their cap space, lack of depth at goal, available goalies league-wide, Varly’s injury issues and expiring contract, Bernies age and pedigree (the best may be yet to come), his play this season, including the 10 game win streak and game 82 (getting the Avs in the playoffs), a playoff win while injured against the President trophy winners… etc. Anyways I hope Super Joe can prove me wrong on this, should they not re-sign Bernie or Hammond.

Every year needs to be “win now” when you have Mackinnon playing the way he did this season/the top offensive line in the NHL. Varly/Bernie/Hamburgler can collectively get the job done. The D looks good and it would look a whole lot better with Carlson, just need some 2nd line goal scoring help (and obviously to re-sign our goalies) with that 20 million (also John Carlson). Francouz? He has lots of KHL experience and is very good goalie. I think he could be AVS backup next season. I don’t think we have signed him only for AHL purposes.

I agree with the “kid” above. There is not a lot of goalie material out there. All of this messing around does nothing to help team morale. Let”s get with the program and sign Bernie–then we can continue with the youth movement.

I’m guessing the offer was fair for a back-up or tandem position. But its often been said that Bernie has a real desire in being the #1, and that means getting paid like one. Joe has his #1.
