There were legitimate reasons for and against trading for Hall but I wonder if all the people on Twitter who said the Avs didn’t “need” him still believe that.

But now the people who said we didn’t need him have moved on to “needing” Peter Laviolette and Carey Price. Sheesh. I guess we’re gonna do this every freaking January.

This isn’t fun but this is still a better team than last year and that was a better team than the year before.

Why can’t the Avs win more face offs? So many times the opposition wins then is able to control play. This weakness is magnified on the PK and has led to many goals against. And in last night’s OT, the Avs barely touched the puck.

Same story, the other team’s goaltender played much better than ours.

I keep coming back to feeling we have a group of of players with a huge amount of points, but we keep getting beaten by teams with players with way less points.
That seems to indicate the others know how to play as a team while the Avs don’t.
The Avs seem to play better as a team when one or more of our big scorers is injured.

Grub is really starting to tick me off, always talking about “the PK’s in a slump” and “backchecking” and bullshit. He sure doesn’t make any mention of the 3, 4, and 5 goals he’s giving up every game.

Goalies don’t ‘give up’ goals; they get scored on. It isn’t on purpose and there’s an entire team on the ice. Why isn’t it “I’m tired of Cole’s bullshit. Why doesn’t he talk about the 3, 4, 5 goals a game the defense is giving up?” “Or why is the PK dogshit?” Or ask MacK why he ‘gave up’ his man on the game-winner and “let” him take an uncontested shot from the slot?

I would never say that players like Cole And MacK didn’t make some mistakes but in a game where the AVS out played and had better scoring chances it but still loses the game. I’d say for sure that it comes down to Grubauer being not good enough! All teams need to be able to rely on their tender to make the big saves when mistakes are made and Gruby is not making them. He’s just not been good enough.

He does make big saves. You just don’t recognize them when they happen. He makes a stop or two in the first or second period of a game on a shot that he shouldn’t, you know, one that scores 99% of the time, and you treat it like it’s routine. He gets beat by a high-danger shot late in the game or during the PK and suddenly he’s ‘not good enough’. It’s a double standard. You expect Grubi to cover for LITERALLY every other mistake made by every other player on the team, but he has no safety net and holding him or any goaltender to a perfect standard is bullshit. It’s the nature of the position to be the last line of defense but to lay this loss at his feet when an NHL player is given time and space in the slot and the only way that player beats Grub is post-and-in is, again, bullshit.

I agree with AJ, I don’t know why he picked up his leg on the first goal. I agree that they outplayed the Stars for stretches of this game, but the PK wasn’t one of them, hell, the 2nd period wasn’t the Avs dominating. You lose puck battles along the wall, then in the corner, then on the wall again and then try and block a pass out of the corner instead of taking the man, and give a guy a point blank shot and a rebound opportunity and it’s the goalie’s fault?

Can I just point out that Grubs allowed 2 goals. *2*!!! In regulation. The NHL’s highest scoring offense, as AJ pointed out, managed one goal and one own goal.
Any other night and we are not having this conversation because the offense scores 3-4 goals. Let’s get off Grub’s back; he played well enough for the Avs to win.
