While winning their division and advancing to the 2nd round in a sweep over LA were big accomplishments for Las Vegas in my mind their inaugural season accomplishments will always have an asterisk because unlike any previous expansion team they got to pick from the top 8 or 9 players from each team in the expansion draft. It is not as big an accomplishment as it would have been for the Atlanta Thrashers, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning or Florida Panthers to have done so in their first seasons who all picked from the dregs of each other NHL team’s rosters.
