The Colorado Avalanche hit the ice for the first day of training camp and there is a lot to talk about from the day.
My DNVR colleague Bailey Curtis and I will have more in-depth pieces as the week goes on, but I’ve been writing training camp notebooks and takeaways for over a decade. I might as well keep doing them, right?
To start us off, let’s look at the groups for the day:
Cale Makar was listed as the extra defenseman in his group, but he was wearing a red (non-contact) jersey. He participated in a couple of the early drills before sitting out the competitive portions of the session.
I’ll sort my thoughts by groups, so let’s get into it.

Does it already seem pre-ordained that Kelly get 4C time so they can try Svechkov and Hughes at middle 6 wing?
