Getting nemeth was key to stop playing our D6 a few minutes a game and sparing Toews and G minutes, especially on pk. If Nemeth can play 12-15 mins a game that is solid and will help Toews and G

Hey Guys, Good discussion of the moves. I think the bottom line is they added depth for the playoffs that did not cost much and will not put them in a bind with future salary cap considerations.

I agree that Nemo will be the most visible addition as he will play the most and reduce minutes for the top three which is good. Soderberg’s use will be interesting to see how much and where he plays. Doobi, let’s knock on wood and cross our fingers that we only see him play a little and Grubi stays healthy.

I strangely feel this is the best draft ever to stockpile late round picks because it’s so hard to scout that good players may slip through…but the SC window is wide open, and keeping 1st round picks is essential to leaving it open for a while. Look at what other teams give up for marginal depth guys this time of year…

Thanks AJ and Rudo, you guys really working overtime this season and in particular this weekend. Your insights always spot on. Really think Nemo the perfect addition to ease the load on out top D. It was great for Grubbie to get a rest but think the D need the same. Hopefully with Nemo and then Bo back, Toews and G can get minutes down to 20ish. As for Sods, with LOC on longer term IR, and the inexplicable reluctance to bring up Kaut or Bowers, he is just depth to Josh back the AHL guys. Bellemare, Sods, Jost, Compher all going to play some center and some wing to close out the reg season.

I’d give the deadline moves an ‘A’. We got players at rock bottom prices. Great work by Joe Sakic.

We only needed depth, not star players and specifically needed a better backup goalie, defensive depth and a better 3C to replace Tyson Jost.

Jost’s possession numbers have begun to bottom out without Nuke on his line, and Jared/Joe were knowingly looking not only for lower line depth, but a 3rd line center who could forecheck, win 50/50 battles on the boards, play D and score while leading the likes of Nuke and Donskoi, instead of being a floater reaping the benefit of his wings.

Favorable bias for Jost exists in Avs’ fandom, but pragmatically, if one looks at what he brings, he isn’t the 3C a team wants for the playoffs, and Sods can fill that role much better. Sods isn’t perfect, but he is a legit 3C type, so it was a good deal to get him, especially at a bargain price.
