In the latest installment of “Avalanche Storytime”, brought to you by Bender’s Bar and Grill, Adrian Dater takes us back to July 28, 1997, the day the New York Rangers tried to steal away Joe Sakic with a predatory offer sheet.
The Avs had one week to match the offer, but for a financially strapped ownership group at the time, this was no sure thing. Adrian details how they were able to come up with the money to keep their captain.

Last Place Rob
I remember hearing a story about the team on a road trip early that following season. The players had boarded the team bus outside the hotel, but were unable to leave, as there was an armored truck (Brinks?) parked in front of the bus. A player hollered from the back, “Hey Salic, move your car so we can go!” The bus exploded with laughter.
