Before the 48 point season, I was a Barrie fan. Then he took the team to arbitration and it seemed that, now he had his contract, he didn’t have to worry about his play. True, the 48 point season was not good for anyone on the team. Barrie took lots of grief, even from me.
This past season has been much better for the entire team, and I think Barrie had a much better season as well. Could we just not have so many Barrie Turnovers please?

I thinks saying that once he had his contract he stopped worrying about his play is a ridiculous thing to say. He clearly isn’t that type of guy.

I think we saw in the playoffs his limitations when a good team keys in on him. His unwillingness to take a hit, especially in the playoffs means we can’t transition the Puck to offense but get stuck in our own end because barrie doesn’t feel like that part of being a dman applies to him. I also think that while barrie has a great shot, being between rants and mack on the pp created some splash damage in the assists column. He’s lost a step since the Cooke hit (he was dominating that series beforehand), but is still a good player I’ll freely admit. His trade value is at an all time high right now, and given his big time weaknesses, the arbitration history, the young rhd pipeline, and the huge paycheck coming in two years, I think Sakic needs to move Tyson. Next summer could be ideal but then again his value might never be higher than right now given his ppg. Just my take.

I believe that the hand injury and maybe other minor dings hurt his play late in the season. The coaching staff seemed to find a way to use him so that his funky defensive play was less of a liability. If Johnson and Nemeth stay healthy the AVs can continue to use him in the offensive role that emphasizes this strengths. HIs defensive play drives me crazy and gives me an ulcer so I would give him a B-.
