When the team gives us more to work with, I promise we’ll be happy to oblige!

My waivers confusion stemmed from a lot of time playing the EA Sports NHL 2010 and 2011 video game franchises. In the ‘Be a GM’ mode, two-way contracts were waivers exempt, and one-way contracts weren’t. I just learned/assumed that’s how it really worked in the NHL. My bad! Learning new things is great.

That would make way more sense. Therefore the NHL absolutely can’t work that way.

The waiver rules changed under the new CBA. Traditionally, that’s how two-way and one-way contracts worked.

Yeah, I feel silly for not being up on current waiver protocol. One-way = waivers and two-way = waiver exempt is much more intuitive, and it was really engrained in my mind that this was how things were done.

I can’t say I blame the players for wanting to change that rule, though. There’s just too much potential for abuse against rank-and-file players by the owners with those two-way contracts.
