Nice summation, y’all. It sounds to me like Roy’s pursuit of Radulov is more akin to cold-calling out of the rolodex more than anything else. If it gets more serious, great. If not, well, there are more calls to be made to improve this team. I do think Joe and Patty would love to find a consistent finishing winger for Dutchy that really complements him, though. So much potential there that the team absolutely needs to find a way to tap into.

This could be the beginning of asset reallocation with the Avalanche. Clearly Colorado cannot add a talent like Radulov without subtracting salary from the current roster. Could this be the precursor to a draft day trade? Does the addition of Radulov indicate the end of the Ryan O’Reilly era? WHat combination of players and or draft picks could the Avalanche get for O’Reilly? It will be fascinating to see how this plays out in the next three weeks.

I think we’re in for a longer haul than three weeks. Probably closer to six

If Roy did call Rads agent then it shows that the braintrust is “peering under every pebble” to improve the team, which is a good thing.

As for Rads himself- talent is not an issue. Money is not an issue, he’ll know the salary parameters and will have to agree to them to play in the NHL, period. Behavior- this is the wildcard, but Roy is the one coach he could play for and who can keep him in line, and that relationship is the only reason we are having this conversation at all. Rads coming to the NHL is a question of him wanting to be in the best league in the world, he’d be coming here to play and win on the world’s biggest stage, and that requires him to be part of a team.

The other thing this smells of is R$R demanding more money than the Avs want to give him. Buffalo is interested, maybe soon we’ll be talking about Rads and Zads.
