From the team laundry department comes this interesting note, courtesy of Sportslogos.net, that the Colorado Avalanche will be one of a dozen teams getting makeovers to their uniforms starting in 2017-18.
In case you hadn’t heard, Adidas will take over the manufacturing of all NHL jerseys starting this season, as Reebok drops out. While some teams won’t have any changes (probably, Original Six teams, etc), Chris Creamer of Sportslogos says, based on his sources, the Avs are one of 12 confirmed teams that will see changes. They are expected to be unveiled next month at an NHL function in Las Vegas.
What might the changes entail? Creamer doesn’t say. He expects most changes to be minor, and he says no actual team logos will change. In other words, the ‘A’ with the snow sliding down will still be the official team logo.
Let’s assume one of the changes to be made will be the removal of the piping down the sides of the jersey. That was a Reebok innovation, one mostly reviled by the fans.
Personally, I hope the team goes back to the brighter shade of burgundy like in the olden days. I thought they just looked better, period. Maybe the fact that they were colors worn by Stanley Cup-winning teams helped make them look better too, though.
There will be no more third jerseys next season. The home and road jerseys are it. It is possible that some teams could adopt their current third jerseys as their new home uniforms. The Minnesota Wild, for instance, is expected to do that.
Should the Avs go with their current blue third jerseys as the new full-time uniform? A.J. Haefele and I debated this on a recent BSNAvalanche podcast, actually. I hope that doesn’t happen, while he is more inclined to support it.
What say you, Avs fans?

I really liked the jerseys they wore at the Coors Field game. I also liked this year’s third jerseys.
Yes, I liked those Coors Field ones too.
I would go for something close to the current third jersey, with some more burgundy added in places. Coors Field jersey for the road games.
I hate the 3rd jerseys, it doesn’t even look like the right shade of blue. I’d rather they keep what they have now then do that. Make the outdoor jerseys the new ones, they were awesome and I think most fans would like that.

The Winter Classic jerseys in both white and burgundy would be amazing.
The NHL needs to go back to white jerseys at home; they can no longer use the “we’d have to carry both away’s and 3rd’s on the road” excuse for switching it now.
But, alas, we live in a society where the beautiful and time-tested things of yesterday are evil because…they are from yesterday.
Chronological snobbery mixed with an insatiable lust for “progress” has found its way into hockey as well. How we forget that progress is not automatically better, and that you can also progress off of a cliff.
Personally I would like to see some Pine green with Snow White and maybe some pewter gray in their all to represent Colorado and also Avalanches! I think they need a whole new look for a whole new team!
Thank God they are getting rid of the piping. They were the ugliest jersey in the whole league.
