If he spends the season with Makar, his numbers are likely to increase. He could head into year 1 of this contract, already playing well above his cap hit. It’s likely a slam-dunk from day one!

Is there any chance they give him a look on PP1 over Makar?

Might make a bit more sense to ease Makar into PP time by letting him QB PP2 for a bit?

Between Makar and Girard, who has the better one-timer? They both seem to have that ability to sneak quick snap shots / wrist shots through traffic off stride.. but we still need to replace Barrie’s ability to bomb one-timer’s….

very excited to see how Joe decides to use G on the PP (either 1 or 2)

Yeah no. Love G, but Makar is the type of player you’re looking to get more ice time especially in offensive situations not less.

I could see that being a fluid situation throughout the season depending on not only injuries, but also who’s hot and that nights opponent. Because Makar is right handed and Girard is a lefty, it gives them the ability to change the whole look of the power play by interchanging them. If the opponent is really focusing on shutting down one option (Makar feeding MacK for example) swap Girard in there for the next pp and feed Rantanen on the other side.

It should definitely be a fluid situation. Personally I love the idea of either Makar or Girard up top. Makar will probably have a better shot but Girard has experience running an NHL PP. If Bowen Byram makes the team, that gives them ANOTHER option. LOL. Embarrassment of riches.

Thanks for the fantastic article AJ!
I’m excited too!

That said, is it just me, or did Girard seem to slow down and seem more out of it during the post season?

Great article. I like the signing. If Girard takes those next steps in development and can stay healthy in the playoffs, it will be a great contract and eight years for him in Colorado. Future is really exciting right now!
