Avalanche-Wild game postponed after COVID outbreak

The NHL announced Thursday night’s game between the Avalanche and Minnesota Wild is postponed after five Wild players tested positive for COVID-19. The league released the following statement:

The National Hockey League announced that as a result of five additional Minnesota Wild Players being added today to the NHL’s COVID Protocol Related Absence List, the team’s games will be postponed at least through Tuesday, Feb. 9.

The team’s training facilities have been closed, effective immediately, and will remain so until further notice. The League is in the process of reviewing and revising the Wild’s regular season schedule.

The Wild organization has, and will continue to follow, all recommended guidelines aimed at protecting the health and safety of its Players, staff and community at large as set by the NHL, local, state and national agencies.

Colorado’s Tyson Jost was added to the COVID protocols list this evening as well.

It wraps up a week in which there were constant murmurs about positive tests from the Minnesota dressing room but the league allowed the teams to play three times in four days before deciding to shut things down.

For the moment, it only impacts a single game for Colorado as they are still scheduled to return to action this Saturday afternoon to take on the Blues in St. Louis for back-to-back afternoon games.
