In the latest edition of “Avalanche Storytime”, presented by the metro area’s best hockey bar, Bender’s Bar and Grill, Adrian Dater revisits the 2001 trade-deadline blockbuster that brought Rob Blake to the Avalanche – and saw fan favorite Adam Deadmarsh go to the Kings.

There was some drama behind the scenes, as Adrian recounts.

Adrian Dater has been covering the Avs since their inception. In 2015, he became the lead NHL national columnist with Bleacher Report, where he worked until 2017 before joining BSN Denver.

  • I was at the game against Minny when the trade was announced.
I remember being bummed that Deadmarsh was traded but also stoked that we were getting Blake.

So cool to hear about the stuff that went on behind the curtains.
    Thanks Dater!

  • Great Story Dater!

Count me as one of those many huge fans of Deader.

I got to met Adam a couple of times at my son’s swim meets, both the girls got into competitive swim here in the Inland Northwest, great guy, very unassuming, tragic that his career was cut short.

  • Great trip down memory lane. Deadmarsh is now working for my favorite WHL team, the Spokane Chiefs, as an assistant coach. Glad to hear he and his family are doing well.
