With their fifth round selection, the Colorado Avalanche selected Swedish goaltender Adam Werner  131st overall. Werner, 19, is 6’5″ and 198 pounds.

Werner, who was undrafted in the 2015 NHL Draft despite being the 8th ranked European goaltender, spent last season predominantly playing for Farjestad BK J20 of the Super Elite league and posted a .916 save percentage and 2.49 goals-against-average in 30 games played.

From the Hockey Prospect Black Book:

“Werner is a second-time NHL draft eligible goalie who has great size. Werner has improved his numbers this season being a starter for Farjestad at the J20 level. While Werner boasts tremendous size at 6’5, he still needs to learn how to fully use it to his advantage. He actually has decent athletic ability for that size, but needs to cut down on angles better. His movement across the crease is decent, but he doesn’t make himself look big because he stays back on the goal-line at almost all times. This becomes a problem with lateral passes as he needs to anticipate them better instead of trying to get across the whole crease after over-committing to the possibility of a shot. His puck-handling and calmness in making plays from behind the net look good. Werner has some upside with his size and athletic ability but will need to find better ways to use that 6’5 frame to his advantage.”
