As the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks prepare to wrap up the 2015-2016 NHL season, the Colorado Avalanche are preparing for a long and busy offseason, made longer by the return of the World Cup of Hockey this fall. The Avalanche will start their preseason on September 27th, almost a full week later than last year, and conclude with the Frozen Fury on October 8th, the same night they opened last year’s regular season.

The 2016 World Cup of Hockey will run from September 17th to October 1st and feature Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, Erik Johnson, Semyon Varlamov, Nathan MacKinnon, Carl Soderberg, and Mikkel Boedker playing for their respective national teams. With so many of the Avalanche’s top talents absent for a large chunk of training camp and preseason, the Avs’ six preseason games could have a very different feel and are likely to feature more of the team’s young prospects than in years past.

The Avalanche begin preseason with a road matchup against the rival Minnesota Wild before returning home for a three game home-stand that features the Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings, and Minnesota Wild in that order. The Avalanche then head out on the road for a game in Dallas before meeting the Kings in Las Vegas for Frozen Fury XVIII. In this final Frozen Fury game, the Kings and Avalanche will send the tradition out with a bang, christening the brand new T-Mobile Arena before the Las Vegas expansion team arrives in 2017.

The Avalanche’s full preseason schedule is as follows:

Tue Sept. 27 at Minnesota 6:00 p.m. St. Paul (Xcel Energy Center)

Wed Sept. 28 vs Dallas 7:00 p.m. Denver (Pepsi Center)

Fri Sept. 30 vs Los Angeles 7:00 p.m. Denver (Pepsi Center)

Tue Oct. 4 vs Minnesota 7:00 p.m. Denver (Pepsi Center)

Wed Oct. 5 at Dallas 6:30 p.m. Dallas (American Airlines Center)

Sat Oct. 8 at Los Angeles 4:00 p.m. Las Vegas (T-Mobile Arena)
