The Colorado Avalanche announced that the team has recalled winger Andrew Agozzino from the San Antonio Rampage. After an impressive 2014-2015 campaign with the Monsters, which saw Agozzino score a team-high 30 goals, the Avalanche prospect is having another strong start, leading the Rampage with 16 points in 13 games (7g, 9a).
Agozzino’s call up comes in the wake of Dennis Everberg‘s demotion to the AHL after clearing waivers earlier today. Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic were disappointed with the big Swede’s power game so far this season and hope for him to rediscover his identity as a physical defensive presence with the Rampage. The Avalanche don’t add much in the way of size or defensive play by swapping Everberg for Agozzino, but the speedy and talented winger could bring some much needed scoring to the Avalanche’s 2nd, 3rd, or 4th line. Last season Agozzino played a single game for the Avalanche and registered an assist.
In other lineup news, Patrick Roy was optimistic after today’s practice that forwards John Mitchell and Alex Tanguay could rejoin the team during their upcoming road-trip. Both veterans practiced in red non-contact jerseys today and neither will play tomorrow when the Avalanche host the Winnipeg Jets.
