A few months after they were leaked online by Icethetics.com and then the NHL’s own online store, the Avalanche used a special open practice at the Pepsi Center to unveil their new third jerseys to fans.

The new third jerseys match the leaks reported here back in August but today’s open practice gives fans a first look at a number of new features for this uniform. The Avalanche’s new third jerseys feature a number of firsts for the franchise. For the first time the Avalanche have abandoned their black pants, instead opting for a navy blue kit. The jerseys feature a modern sans serif number font new to the Avalanche brand. The jerseys are also asymmetrical, with a Colorado state flag on one shoulder.
The Avalanche’s new uniforms represent a sizeable departure from the franchise’s history. After abandoning the yeti foot secondary logo this summer it was clear the Avalanche were looking to refresh their brand and this new third jersey with two new logos and no Avs’ primary “A” logo continues to push the envelope. With no Avalanche logo on the rink thanks to the 20th Anniversary logo occupying center ice, longtime fans may be in for a bit of brand-whiplash when the Avalanche wear their thirds for the first time.
The Avalanche will wear their new third jerseys 14 times this season, starting with an October 24th debut against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The full schedule is as follows:
Oct. 24 – Columbus
Nov. 1 – San Jose
Nov. 6 – NY Rangers
Nov. 28 – Winnipeg
Dec. 9 – Pittsburgh
Dec. 21 – Toronto
Dec. 31 – Chicago
Jan. 8 – Nashville
Jan. 20 – Buffalo
Feb. 6 – Winnipeg
Feb. 24 – San Jose
March 7 – Arizona
March 26 – Minnesota
April 3 – St. Louis
