Avalanche, Blue Jackets swap defensemen

The Colorado Avalanche have traded defenseman Ryan Stanton to the Columbus Blue Jackets for right-handed defenseman Cody Goloubef. Stanton has been injured while down with the San Antonio Rampage of the AHL, where the newly-acquired Goloubef will now report.

The 26-year old Goloubef has seen his career take a turn for the worse after looking like a player who was coming on for the Blue Jackets in recent years. After re-signing with Columbus on a two-year, $1.3 million contract in the summer of 2015, Goloubef has watched the Blue Jackets bolster their defensive lineup with the likes of Seth Jones and Zach Werenski, forcing him back down to the AHL.

Goloubef has played in 96 NHL games, registering 18 points on two goals and 16 assists. He appeared in a career-high 43 games for Columbus last season, scoring eight points (1 goal, 7 assists) along the way. He is an unrestricted free agent after this season.
