The Colorado Avalanche and Colorado Eagles have announced an affiliation agreement that makes the Eagles the newest ECHL affiliate for the Avalanche. The Avs were previously affiliated with the Fort Wayne Komets the past two seasons before abruptly ending their partnership last month with one year remaining on their agreement. The Eagles and Avalanche have agreed on a four-year partnership.

The Eagles, located in Loveland, Colorado, become the newest addition to the Avalanche family and lands the two organizations in a partnership many have envisioned for a number of years. The Eagles have been wildly successful on their own, winning seven division titles, five conference championships, and two league championships (2005 and 2007) while also being well-attended.

The Eagles, who moved from the CHL to the ECHL in the merging of the two leagues in 2011, finished last season 41-27-4 and lost in the Conference Quarterfinals, four games to two. They finished ninth in the league in average nightly attendance. The Eagles will now be the home for Avalanche prospects who are moving in between San Antonio, Colorado’s top minor league affiliate, of the AHL, and the ECHL.
