The Boys are back after working their bags off for 2 weeks. First a discussion of the USA’s absolute beatdown of the European team in the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straights. Then, they hosted the Keith’s Cup which is Spring Valley’s version of the Ryder Cup where Spencer and Mitch play against each other with 22 members from Spring Valley Men’s League. After an extra year off the Ryder Cup returns to one of America’s greatest tracks at Whistling Straights in Kohler, Wisconsin. The United States lost the last Ryder Cup in blowout fashion- losing 17.5 to 10.5 to team Europe. There have been a lot of questions surrounding the US teams this year and their camaraderie, but captain Steve Stricker put those to rest and said he’s preaching to the team to just have fun this year. The Open Championship returns to Royal St. Georges for the first time since 2011 where Darren Clarke won after being 150-1 before the week. This links course in Sandwich, Kent will prove to be a tough test of golf for the worlds best, as only 7 players total have been under par in the last two Open Championships at this venue. The Match 4 was a wild success- Moonlight Basin was a great venue and really showed everyone the beauty of a mountain golf course complete with bears and beautiful views. The Travelers Championship was one for the books. 8 playoff holes into the dusk between Harris English and Kramer Hickok made for one long day of exciting golf. While this was going on Mitch had his own long day- the Summer Solstice tournament at Spring Valley where 12 members play 54 holes and must have an open container the entire day- spanning from 6:15am to 9pm. We recap it all here and give you the secret formula to drinking successfully on the golf course.
Joined by Henry Chisholm, we break down the leaders coming down the stretch. Jon Rahm made 2 incredible birdies to vault his way to the top, and leader for most of Sunday Louis Oosthuizen hit one in the hazard at 17. He had to hole an approach shot for eagle at 18 to send the US Open into a playoff but couldn’t make it happen. Jon Rahm, at -6 for the week, captured his first major and also became the first Spaniard to win the US Open.
