After a successful Summer League, Monte Morris, Nuggets agree to terms

The Nuggets and Monte Morris, the 51st overall pick in June’s draft, have agreed to a two-way contract, the team announced.

Morris, 22, averaged 9.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and a team-high 4.3 assists in six games (four starts) during Summer League. The 6-foot-3 point guard played four seasons at Iowa State and led the NCAA in assist to turnover ratio.

Under a two-way contract, which Denver also signed Summer League standout Torrey Craig to earlier this week, Morris is limited to 45 games with the Nuggets next season. The rest of his time will be spent in the G-League via the flex assignment rule which allows Denver, who’s without a G-League affiliate, to assign Morris. The Nuggets used the flex assignment rule on multiple occasions last year when they sent Malik Beasley to Sioux Falls for practices and games.

Two-way players can earn a maximum of $275,000 per season and a minimum of $75,000 if they are not called up to their NBA team during the year. During their time in the NBA, players will earn 1/170 of the rookie minimum contract per day, all per Chris Reichert of 2ways10days.com.

Morris and Craig will fill Denver’s 16th and 17th roster spots next season. The Nuggets currently have point guards Jamal Murray, Jameer Nelson and Emmanuel Mudiay all under contract for next season.
