The injury bug continues to bite the Rams.

Colorado State men’s basketball will likely be without Kyle Evans for the remainder of the 2022-23 season. An inside source confirmed to DNVR that the freshman forward broke his thumb on a freak play during practice on Monday and is now expected to miss the rest of the year.

Evans, a 6-foot-10, 200-pound forward, had recently seen an increase in playing time with CSU already missing multiple players. In the conference opener at New Mexico he logged a season-high 20 minutes on the floor, finishing with 7 points on 3-of-5 shooting.

The hope was that Evans would be able to build on that performance in the coming months — especially with the Rams needing the production in the front court. Unfortunately though, it seems that it’s going to be one of the seasons where when it rains, it pours.

CSU will take on Nevada Wednesday night before returning to Fort Collins for a matchup against a hot Fresno State team. Without Evans, the Rams could desperately use the return of Jalen Lake to the rotation. Sources indicate that while it is not guaranteed that he will be able to go this week, Lake is getting closer to making his way back onto the floor for CSU.
