Year two of the Ali Farokhmanesh era kicked off with a respectable win.
As CSU begins the process of building an NCAA Tournament resume, the night one victory over Montana State might not be the flashiest thing the selection committee will see when judging the worthiness of the Rams.
CSU will play in the Maui Invitational this month, in addition to a fun December schedule that includes games against Colorado, FAU, Nevada, Wyoming and Wisconsin. And obviously the Pac-12 as a whole is projected to be one of the better basketball leagues in the country.
But instead of playing a directional college that nobody in Fort Collins has ever heard of and essentially buying a guaranteed win out of the gate, CSU was tested early by a Montana State squad that should at worst be a top 150 team. The Bobcats were picked in the preseason to win the Big Sky. And along with Northern Colorado, MSU should be right there in the mix for that conference’s auto bid.
