It appears that Julian Lewis’ days as a Colorado Buffalo are coming to an end.
The former five-star QB was benched over a month ago in the Big 12 opener vs. Baylor and hasn’t appeared in a game since. Coach Prime was asked Tuesday if Julian Lewis will get another shot this season.
“That’s on him,” Deion Sanders said. “I don’t play games with young men in their careers and hate on folks. If anything, I’m too forgiving and very kind. I don’t play those games with kids.
“You have to always understand that we may know a little more than you do. We understand what happens, what goes on, what clicks, what doesn’t and what fits. We get that.”
Julian Lewis completed just 11 of 16 passes for 75 yards in the first half vs. Baylor and seven of those completions became behind the line of scrimmage. He was benched for Isaac Wilson, who has thrown seven INTs in his three starts since taking over as the starter.
As timid as Lewis appeared early in the season, he at least took care of the football (only two INTs) better than Isaac Wilson has. However, it doesn’t seem like Julian Lewis is too eager to step back into a starting role for the Buffs this season.
Coach Prime was asked Tuesday if he’s seen Julian Lewis fight for the job.
“If I answer that, you may say I’m taking a shot at the kid,” Deion Sanders said. “I’m not going to do that. I’m not going to go down that rabbit hole.”
Coach Prime declined to directly answer a question that many have wondered about the answer to, but his response was still revealing. Julian Lewis has looked checked out when spotted on the sidelines during games and if today’s college football landscape is any indication, he’s likely played his final snap in the black and gold short of a stunning development.
Isaac Wilson will make his fourth straight start for Colorado this weekend vs. Kansas State, who has QB issues of their own. True freshman Kaneal Sweetwyne will continue to serve as the backup to Wilson.
If it is truly the end of the Julian Lewis era at Colorado, it was short and uneventful.
