Troy Foster has all the makings of a playmaker.

A 6-foot-2, 205-pound frame, with calves that look like they should be on an NFL veteran, the true freshman has looked the part since the first day he arrived on Colorado State’s campus.

Most receivers get to school and realize they will need to spend the next 12 to 18 months in the weight room before having a realistic shot of blending in with the freak athletes who compete at the Division 1 level. Now a couple of weeks into training camp, though, Foster not only looks like he’s ready to be one of the guys, he might just prove to be ‘the guy’ for CSU Football out wide this fall.

While there have been a handful of others who have made a positive impression at wide receiver, day in and day out, Foster has been one of the steadiest contributors for the Rams. And as we get closer to the Week 1 opener against Wyoming, while expectations for a freshman should always be tempered, it would not be surprising at all if in in first-ever collegiate game, Foster ends up seeing the field quite a bit.

Following CSU’s first scrimmage of the fall this past weekend, Jim Mora cited Foster specifically when talking about the evolving depth at receiver for the Rams. “There’s some young guys who have really come on,” he said. “Troy has really come on. But I just want to see us continue to build quality depth, and I want to see it continue to elevate as a group. I’m pleased with our receivers right now.”

A few days later, Mora went more in-depth with his praise of Foster, telling DNVR that the first-year Ram is a physical standout, sure, but he’s also a really coachable player.

“He’s big. He’s physical. He’s a consistent catcher,” Mora said. “He corrects his errors. He doesn’t repeat his errors, which is sometimes really hard for a young guy, especially with the volume of stuff that we put in. He understands situations. He was very well-coached in high school.”
