With a hint of beer on his breath, and a mustard stain on his favorite Colorado State t-shirt, an exasperated fan screams from the stands to run the damn football.
“Too soft,” he mumbles to himself, watching the offense go three-and-out once again.
For fans of the CSU Rams, this hypothetical scenario unfortunately seems far too real. And if the program is ever going to get back to the glory days, finding a way to more effectively run the football is going to be a major key.
Since the opening of Canvas Stadium in 2017, the Rams have produced a top five rusher in the league just one time. It was Dalyn Dawkins in the inaugural season. Since Dawkins was third in the Mountain West with just shy of 1,400 yards on the ground, though, it’s really been a struggle for CSU to lean on the rushing attack.
