Niko Medved has officially agreed to a new long-term contract with Colorado State. 

In a release issued by the school on Monday afternoon, it was announced that Medved has signed an extension through the 2028-29 season. An additional two years can be opted into for 2029-30 and 2030-31 as well. 

“My family and I are so thankful to be a part of the Colorado State men’s basketball program and Fort Collins community,” Medved said. 

“I want to thank University President Amy Parsons and interim Director of Athletics John Weber for believing in me, our program, and what we have built in the past six years on and off the court. Their commitment to the men’s basketball program continues to help us push forward in the ever-changing landscape of college athletics. I look forward to many more nights of Moby Madness and the support of the Colorado State community in the future!”

While exact numbers for the deal were not released publicly by CSU, the Coloradoan reports that the deal will begin at $1.7 million and then escalate with each season. By the 2028-29 season, Medved will be scheduled to make $1.9 million. He’ll make $2 million per year by the seventh season if exercised by either party.

Medved has built a terrific foundation for the Colorado State men’s basketball program over the last six seasons and was reportedly in the mix for a number of high major jobs this spring. With this new deal, though, he has an opportunity to take things to the next level with the Green & Gold. 

CSU is making a major financial commitment into basketball with this extension for Medved. As things currently stand, he’ll be making more than the majority of the football coaches in the Mountain West. 

We’ve already seen him guide CSU to four 20+ win seasons, a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and the highest ranking in the AP Poll in school history. With this type of financial backing, the goals will be even higher.

“As we have seen time and time again under Niko’s leadership, our fans and Fort Collins have elevated Moby Madness to another level, and the long-term commitment we have made to Niko and he has made in return to CSU is a direct result of that increased level of interest, community support, and program-generated revenues.”
