Welcome to the return of “Avalanche Storytime”, brought to you by Bender’s Bar and Grill in Westminster – for our money, the best place to watch Avalanche games in the area.
In this edition, Adrian Dater recounts the March 3, 1999, night in which Peter Forsberg scored six points – in 22 minutes – in a game in which the Avs trailed at one point, 5-0 to the Florida Panthers.
It remains one of the most iconic nights in Avs history, and Dater has some insider details that have never been revealed.

Unless there was an earlier one I’ve forgotten about, Rob Niedermayer’s cheap shot on Foppa happened 5 years later during the 2004 World Championships.

No, it was something that stemmed from the 1993 WJC

That tool really had it in for Forsberg. Here’s a clip from the 1993 WJC Sweden / Canada game, at about the 1:00 mark Foppa gets pulled down but I can’t see a number:

BTW – Here’s a clip of his 2nd goal in the 6 point Florida game, it’s my personal favorite of his career:

Good stuff AD. Good stuff NMR. I seriously think I almost died earlier today from the lack of hockey and just how freaking July it is, but you guys really helped me here.

I also remember Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals when Mr Forsberg scored a hat trick against the same Panthers. I guess he just liked playing against them. Not sure if Neidermeyer was part of that 1996 team, but that would be big motivation.

If I could choose anybody EVER to punch in the face right now, it would be Rob Neidermeyer.

Tried on my phone and computer and the video isn’t working, AD.
