We may be getting very close to having a new Avalanche television play-by-play voice named, and that name might be familiar to Avs fans already.

According to more than one source, prospective candidates who applied to replace Mike Haynes – who resigned from the position recently – have been told that the Altitude TV network is going with an “internal” candidate. That person most likely is current Avs radio play-by-play man Marc Moser, but that has not yet been confirmed by Altitude.

Moser, who is popular with Avs fans, is believed to have applied for the position and Altitude has had him on a short list, it is believed. Altitude executive producer Ken Miller said, as of last week, the position had yet to be decided upon. He did not return a call and text messages Wednesday.

Haynes, who held the TV play-by-play job from 2005-18, resigned for unspecified reasons. If Moser moves to the TV side, that leaves the radio job vacant, of course. It is not known who may be on that short list, if one exists.

This story will be updated as news develops.
