Hey AD, Neal hasn’t won a cup, how is he a proven winner? He has always signed with good teams.

Great podcast, even the unicorn part. I tend to lean toward AJ’s view. Let the young forwards evolve, there’s nothing wrong with having a backend consisting of Johnson, Girard, Z, Barrie, Carlson and Barberio/Nemeth/Timmins/Meloche. If they’re fortunate enough to get Carlson there doesn’t need to be a rush to trade Barrie. Make room for the new guys when room is needed. First Barberio/Nemeth and eventually Barrie (if Carlson is signed). Healthy scratches will work and it’s good to have depth. No way in hell I would trade Johnson.

Agree with everyone on Bernier. Give him a decent raise, same scenario as last year. 1B with a chance to prove himself as 1A for here or somewhere else. I have no doubt he was banged up in the playoffs and last week of season at least, he didn’t look the same.

I would like to get another current legit threat up front. Neal would be fine. JvR would be fine. Skinner for this year’s first and a prospect not named Tommins or Makar would be fine. Agree with AJ on being responsible is signing Neal or JvR. No friggin’ Stastny under any circumstances. He’s not needed and he’s not wanted (by me at least).

Great podcast, especially the unicorn part. I don’t disagree that having a stacked blueline with Carlson plus the current roster guys and prospects would be just fine, but I agree with Jesse that that situation is pretty much equivalent to what he was suggesting with the forwards. Not sure why AJ was so adamant that top-6 spots need to be held open for guys like Kerfoot, Bowers, etc. but didn’t insist that top-4 spots or spots on a guy’s natural side need to be reserved for guys like Timmins or Makar. It seems like Timmins as a third-pairing LD would face the same kinds of limits on playing time and usage as say, Bowers at 3C. Again, I’m not sure having too many quality players and prospects would ever be a bad problem to have, but I think that applies equally whether we’re talking about forwards or D.

Agree with taking a hard pass on trading EJ though. Probably worth more to the Avs than whatever the trade market would be for him around the league.

I’m big time into ‘corns. So magical, right? You know, they’re the most lethal animal on the planet.

Can I try.
Trade Kamenev and 2019 Conditional Pick for Jeff Skinner.
If Skinner resigns it’s a 2019 1st if not it’s a 2019 3rd.
Sign John Carlson to a 7 year 52m deal.

Resign Bernier to a two year 6m deal.
Resign Nieto and Nemeth to one year deals.

2018 NHL Draft.
Trade 1st to NY Rangers for 26 and 28.
26. RW Jonatan Berggren
28. D Matthias Samuelsson
2nd C Jack Drury
2nd G Justus Annunen
3rd D Adam Samuelsson (Always loved the idea of the twin thing)

Great podcast guys, thanks. I say bring in Neal and Carlson. Re-sign EVERYBODY, especially Bernie and Hammond. Avs win the Cup. Y’all please try to remember that cup winning teams tend to have 7+ quality defensemen and 8+ quality top 6 forwards. There are ALWAYS injuries, massive depth is needed to win. The Avs should be hunting the cup NOW NOW NOW. When you have Mack (and his crazy low salary), every year needs to be a real possibility, or you might be secretly rooting for other teams and you need a councilor 🙂
