So… Comeau gets a B but Girard gets a B-? What is this?

Well for one you have two different people doing the grading so that’s going to matter. But I think Comeau was better this year. Girard had a promising rookie season (as I wrote above) but he was also their fifth D. Comeau was on their second line and played/excelled in a much larger role.

Well, I think “second line” is stretching it, but based on minutes played, I guess.

…or if you go by scoring. That would also him on the second line. But, I think time is still the best indicator.

Good write up AJ. I think it would be awesome if someone with the tech and time on their hands (not me) put together a Girard rookie season highlight reel. You know, all the crazy stuff. Two most recent examples: Game 82 when he faked Schenn and made him go face first into the boards, and then he did the same thing to Johansen in the playoffs!!! Sprawled out face-first into the boards, Schenn and Johansen. That never gets old for me 🙂 Hockey orgasm moments all year from this kid!

I’d go as far as give him an A-. A 19 year old kid coming from another franchise middle of the season with just a handful of NHL games on his belt and just takes over. He’s truly something special, he even has his own signature move already! The point production should be there too next season. Stat wise 17 penalties drawn stands out for me. Sounds like a lot for a defenceman?

Nice–Girard has become my favorite AVs player-finally someone to replace JML. Should be a fine line to add some weight (muscle) and not loose his quickness. My favorite part of his season was the recurrent spinorama (sp?). He did seem to be puzzled as to what to do when he got deep in the offensive zone. Maturity should help that. I like your B- grade.

AJ – nice write up on Girard. I agree with your grade of B- which gives him plenty of time to grow and mature into the prolific D-man I anticpate him becoming for years to come with the Avs.
