Ryan and Zac, Love the podcast and love listening to you guys, but I have something serious to discuss. On a couple of podcasts, to include this one, you have mentioned how players are putting their lives on the line. I wish I could let it pass, but I do need to have my say in this. As prior active duty (13+ years) and currently in reserve status, I have deployed once as a Military Police and twice as an Infantryman. Football is not a job where you put your life on the line. Now, players have been injured enough to have caused death. But that is only a handful. But it IS NOT a job where the description is putting your life on the line. The biggest impact for football players has to be Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) injuries from concussions. Thankfully the NFL (partnering with the US Army) have put in a lot of time and money into helping mitigate injury caused by concussions and how to help those players with TBI. It has been said by others in the reporting and analytical field that players deserve the millions of dollars they are paid to help cover the possibility of injury and MAYBE death. So why isn’t our military covered in the millions? My job description is that I am signing up to go into war. Death was part of my job. The NFL is not. Not to go too deep into politics but I just wanted to put in my thoughts. Still love you guys and look forward to every podcast and news article. I promise my next comment will not be so serious, but as a Veteran, something get to me and you guys happen to catch me at one of those times.

Hey Spacebar,

You make a great point. Nothing can compare to the risk that soldiers incur and I’m sorry if it came across that we were putting football players on that level at all.

You know, I think it’s just a poor choice of words on our part to say “life,” what they are really putting on the line is their quality of life. A high percentage of these guys are in miserable pain for the rest of their lives and, of course, there is the risk of CTE, which can lead to them losing their life. But you are right, that is a small percentage.

I vow that we will be more careful with out words.

Thank you for your support and, most of all, thank you for your service.

No problem Ryan, Thanks for the feedback. I can definitely go with saying their quality of life is at stake. One of my all time favorite Broncos Ed McCaffrey had to retire due to too many concussions and what it was doing to him. John Lynch was the same way. His doctors were starting to warn him about all the hits (which are AWESOME) were doing to his head.

Thanks for addressing my comment. Now…..get back to work on reporting great Bronco stuff!

I’ve never deployed, but I just got out of the Army so I hope I can chime in on this and I don’t want to call anyone out, but the reason military isn’t covered in the millions (not really sure what that means, because free healthcare while you’re in and if you retire, you have it for life) is because no one pays money to watch service members do what they do. I didn’t really have an issue with saying they risk their lives because well, it does happen. Even though it’s not in their description, you can’t turn a blind eye to it. They need that money because they trained their whole life for football and got a degree that they can probably land a job in that field, but so many concussions or other injuries and they don’t have a job anymore. Point is, I think it is fair to say they can use that expression appropriately. Putting their lives on the line doesn’t have to mean life/death. One could interpret it as a really how it interprets their normal way of living (I.E. pain, PTSD or anything like that for anyone). Keep up the great work Ryan and Zac and Andre!

Hey guys,
I don’t understand why the expectations for Carlos Henderson and Jake Butt have gone down since last year. When they were drafted everyone was extremely excited for them, but they both spent last season injured. Because of that, I don’t see why the expectations of them have gone down; It’s not like their level of talent has decreased, but everyone talks like their ceiling has come down because they were hurt. Why is that?

I don’t think that expectations are down, more that they are just unknown at this time. Even fully healed, Jake Butt has not taken a snap in an actual NFL game and the organization is just wondering how he will react when back on the field. I would say they still have high hopes for him just for the fact they have kept him on the team!

Zac and Ryan, could you see Denver trading CJ Anderson and the 5th pick to the Browns for the 4th pick if Barkley is sitting there? Would it take adding a third or fourth round pick to make this trade work. Both teams get a RB. CJ gets a fresh start and we get a playmaker.

I’d be interested to see more about Tremaine Edmunds going at #5 if Baker Mayfield is off the board. As you said, it is amazing to think he could play for 10 years and not hit 30 and probably play at a very high level too.

What I like most about him is that he could be used as an edge rusher too in case Shane Ray and/or Shaquil Barrett don’t work out.

Would imagine either Oakland or 49ers scoop him up if we trade back beyond 10 though.

Switching back to free agency, what about Jeremy Maclin for slot? I can’t believe he’s not signed somewhere yet. Nine years of experience and he’s better than anything else we have at the slot, right?

With 2 development QB’s on the roster already, I can’t see us selecting a QB at 5 but say we do, is that the end of Paxton Lynch with us? I’m still in the thought that we’d be moving on from him a bit too quickly. He wasn’t too bad against the Chiefs or the Raiders last season

I wouldn’t call Lynch a developed (or even close to it) QB. So I can see Elway going QB at 5 but my hope is still Nelson. Siemian was a more posed QB during the game than Lynch. I think Elway is trying to hype Lynch up for a decent trade for him during the draft.

It would be interesting to go back and see what Elway said about Tebow before he traded him.

Just chiming in on the Cravens and excitement from the Broncos- I know Peko sent out a pretty welcoming tweet. And I think it was pretty early on when the news beoke. So at least one guy reached out on social media. And it was a respected veteran presence. So that had to feel good for Su’a. Just wanted to throw that tidbit in. Keep it up fellas!

Hey guys,
Firstly, Zac, I’m loving your daily breakdown of the broncos on Twitter. Started a new job so I’m not on social media but it’s a great way to see what I’ve missed. Keep it up!
Secondly, being from Ireland, it’s tough to know about the upcoming college players from beyond the first round unless I hear it from you. We have all talked about who we might take at 5 and 40 but seeing as the broncos coached at the senior bowl, I can’t help but think that this draft class must be our best since 2011 given that advantage.
Is there guys you saw at the senior bowl who would be absolute steals in the 3rd 4th or 5th. A new TD, Russell Wilson or dare I say Tom Brady if we don’t go QB in round 1, a new Chris Harris who even went undrafted. Just an absolute stud who for some reason isn’t seen as a high draft pick.. I’m literally depending on what ye say and recommend and I do my own film views on YouTube then after that to get more of a feel for a player.
Keep up the great work

Don’t know if I’m getting this question (thought) in time, but…..what about Gronkowski? I know it’s a long shot, but he still hasn’t committed back to the Patriots. Wouldn’t that be a TE to put some money into!!!

IF the patriots were to trade Gronk, do you think they would trade with the Broncos, as the Broncos are one of their AFC opponents? What may be a scenario the Pats would trade with Denver? Maybe Denver trades with the Bills for their 2 first rounders for the 5th spot, and then trade spot 22 (plus more if needed) for Gronk. To have Gronk as our TE would be AWESOME. Such a great player for Jake Butt to learn under.

First of all a belated congratulations to the entire staff at BSN!

It’s easy to see why you guys can now be called “award winning!” As promised, you guys keep putting out great content on a daily basis for a hungry fan base to consume. I really appreciate Ryan and Zac’s intelligent analysis and always keeping it real for us. I love Andre’s draft analysis and film rooms of the newly acquired players. As a father myself I am blown away that he is able to find the time to dig up all that data and be clear-eyed enough to articulate it so quickly for publication. I was also surprised recently to look at Twitter at 1:30am Hawaii time, and see Zac live Tweeting (530am MST) relaying updates from VJ’s conference from the owners’ meeting. That’s dedication!

Here’s a few comments:

I’m very encouraged by both trades for Veldheer and Cravens. I like the fact that going into the draft the Broncos are minimizing areas of great need to allow themselves the flexibility to draft best player or capitalize on great value. Aside from QB and OL positions in the draft, speaking of great value I would love it if we got Shaquem Griffin in the mid-rounds, and maybe Ballage or Penny if Barkley doesn’t fall to us at the top of the first.

Ryan to answer your question about how to pronounce Coors (seriously dude, your own local beer company’s name?)… just look up all those old “Coors Light it’s the right beer now” commercials. You’ll hear that it’s pronounced with the “oo” sound.

Thanks again guys! You guys are helping to fill a little of the offseason void until the next season begins. The bonus for me, living in a state with no local NFL team (Hawaii has a lot of Cowboys, 49’er, Raiders, and Rams fans) is that you’ve created a community for me to share opinions with fellow Broncos fans from around the world.

PS – If an official BSN Fantasy League gets set up, I’d be down to join!

Yo fellas…Josh from Redwood City here…

What is the deadline for teams to make offers to RFAs, and when must teams match them by? And related to that, what if an offering team doesn’t have a pick in the round the player’s existing team tendered that player? For example, the Rams appear to be going all in, yet have a pretty glaring need at edge rusher. If they made a play for Shaq Barrett (who carries and 2nd round tender), and we don’t match it, what pick would we receive from them consider the Rams don’t have a 2nd round pick?
