David Dahl will begin the season at Triple-A

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Colorado Rockies manager Bud Black announced in his pre-game press conference on Saturday that highly-touted outfielder David Dahl has been sent back to minor league camp.

Dahl was a longshot to make the roster coming into spring training after missing all of 2017 with injuries. But, after a really tough start that saw him go 0-for-15, he began to show every aspect of why he has been considered the best position player prospect Colorado has seen since Nolan Arenado.

In 19 games in the month of March, Dahl slashed .347/.369/.755 with three doubles and five home runs, a category in which he still leads the team.

The signing of Carlos Gonzalez was the writing on the Wall for the talented outfielder as the roster math simply became too much for him to overcome. Colorado now has Gonzalez, Ian Desmond, and Gerardo Parra to go along with MVP candidate Charlie Blackmon in the outfield. Additionally, prospects Raimel Tapia and Mike Tauchman are still vying for a spot.

Regardless of this news, Black makes it clear that Dahl is still very much a part of the long, and short, term plans for the Colorado Rockies.
