BSN Denver caught up with Broncos defensive tackle Vance Walker after the game on Monday to talk about his huge play, the strength of this defense and more. Check out our Q&A below:

On his big-time sack in the fourth quarter:

“It was just a great call by our defensive coordinator [Wade Phillips], just the way they blocked me, I reacted a certain way and it opened up. Obviously, my teammates were taking on blocks on that play too, so it opened up for me. I saw the quarterback and I didn’t realize that he was that far back, but it was just one of those things where I saw him and went to get him and I made the tackle so I was excited about that.”

On making the big play and getting some shine when he’s usually a “dirty work” type of player:

“It’s always a great thing when you can make those big plays whether it’s me or my teammates, but my teammates know what I’m capable of so it’s not really a surprise to them, they’re just happy and the same goes for myself. I certainly do what they ask, stop the run and all that but it’s just the way the system works, I do what I have to do for us to be the number one defense, we all do.”

On how he’s feeling about the team going into Week 17 and the post-season:

“Felling great, feeling great. We just have to rest some guys up, we have a lot of injuries still so we just need to rest some guys up so we can be at full-strength.”

On the play of A.J. McCarron on Monday night:

“He definitely stepped it up more so than his last couple games, he definitely stepped it up with some clutch passes, he looked really promising today.”

On if this is the best defense he’s played on:

“Oh, for sure. It’s not even questionable, the depth we have from the ones and twos whether it’s the D-line, the linebackers or the secondary. I’ve been astonished just to see guys come in and make big plays, not regular plays but big plays, no drop-off, you know? It’s certainly the best unit I’ve played on, by far.”

On if the recent surge by the Kansas City Chiefs, his former team, surprises him:

“Nah man, Andy Reid has always been a great coach, I’ve always like liked him and respected him. It doesn’t surprise me, just being on that defense, I know that they’re a bunch of hard workers. It doesn’t surprise me.”
