Southstands-badge-new‘Round and ’round it goes and where it stops nobody knows.

The ever changing world of Denver sports talk radio is about to change again. In the wake of the announcement that 105.5 ESPN is going belly up comes the news that Kroenke Sports, owners of the Avalanche, Nuggets, Rapids and Altitude TV is purchasing AM950 KRWZ from Entercom who purchased the signal not too long ago from Lincoln Financial Media.

Clearly the plan is to develop a radio version of Altitude TV and one would have to assume that this new station would carry the Avs and Nuggets games live as well as provide talk programming. Oddly, Scott Hastings was let go at 104.3 the Fan just this week. he would doubtlessly be given a slot on a new Altitude station. Chances are very good that Vic Lombardi, who is leaving channel 4 to go to work for Altitude TV, would also find a new radio home at 950 AM.

It sounds like “Silent Stan” Kroenke will no longer be so silent when it comes to sports talk radio in the great city of Denver.

There is also buzz that IHeart Radio (formerly Clear Channel) is also poised to bring sports talk to the AM dial at 760 AM, a signal that once housed “760 the Zone”. Assuming that happens Denver will suddenly have four signals dedicated to sports, 104.3 the Fan, Altitude, 760 and Mile High Sports Radio at 1340 AM.

Wow. So much is happening right now in the world of Denver sports talk it’s hard to keep up so keep visiting us here at the South Stands for more information as it becomes available.
