The NHL Department of Player Safety announced today that Colorado Avalanche forward and captain Gabriel Landeskog is suspended for two games as a result of his blindside hit on Boston’s Brad Marchand. Landeskog was given a five minute major and ejected from the game. Marchand would go on to punch Landeskog in the face as Landeskog was allegedly trying to apologize to Marchand following the hit. Marchand was penalized two minutes and fined $5,000 and faces no further discipline.
The Landeskog suspension marks the second time an Avalanche player has been suspended this season as Tyson Barrie was suspended three games earlier in the year. Landeskog will miss Saturday night’s game against the Montreal Canadiens and next Tuesday’s game at the Toronto Maple Leafs.
