Malone on league's last two-minute report: "I'm not really sure what good it's doing."

DENVER — The Denver Nuggets have been on the wrong end of a few calls already this season.

Dec. 8 in Memphis, a late-game out-of-bounds call didn’t go the Nuggets way. Yet, in the league’s last two-minute report, the league ruled the game-deciding call should have given the ball to Denver. Recently, in their loss to Atlanta on Dec. 23, the league ruled that Nikola Jokic shouldn’t have been whistled for the technical foul that went a long way towards deciding the game’s outcome.

Michael Malone doesn’t see much of a point to the last two-minute report.

“On one hand, you have to respect the transparency, you really do. It’s funny how after Christmas Day, all people can talk about for two days was that game. Well, it’s happened to us a bunch this year. The game in Memphis, the last two-minute report admits that a mistake was made on that review and it should have been our ball. We win that game. Even on the Nikola Jokic (call against) Atlanta, they say he shouldn’t have fouled well it’s not just the foul, I get a tech after. That’s three points with 40 seconds to go. So you love the transparency, but I don’t know what good does it do? We admit that it should have been your ball. Okay, so we win the game then right? No. So I know LeBron and Kevin Durant have been very vocal about it. All I’ll say is the league is really trying to be transparent, to show it’s fans how open we are but at the same time, I’m not really sure what good it’s doing.”

The Nuggets filed an official protest with the league after their controversial finish in Memphis, but their motion was ultimately denied.

“At the end of the day, the referees have the hardest job, they can’t keep me or Thibs happy, they can’t keep either player happy, they can’t keep the fans happy they can’t keep the TV announcers happy, they can’t keep anybody happy,” Malone said. “It’s a thankless job and then now on top of that, they’re errors are openly aired for everybody to see. That’s not easy to handle I’m sure if I was a referee.”
