Denver Nuggets forward Darrell Arthur will be eased into training camp which opens Tuesday on the campus of Creighton University after undergoing a knee scope a few weeks ago, according to The Denver Post’s Chris Dempsey.

Dempsey writes that Arthur is doing on court work but the team will be cautious with him throughout camp.

Arthur played in 70 games last season with Denver and averaged 7.5 points, and 4.2 rebounds in 21.7 minutes. The 27-year-old also shot a career-best 38.5 percent from 3-point range and figures to be one of the first bigs off the bench for the Nuggets this season. Arthur did battles knee soreness throughout last year that caused him to miss games.

Denver re-signed Arthur this summer to team-friendly 3-year, $28 million contract after the forward passed up ‘lucrative’ offers to sign elsewhere. The good news is the Nuggets have extra bodies in Arthur’s absence. Denver is bringing 20 players to training camp, the maximum allowed per team, and recent addition Jarnell Stokes can take up Arthur’s minutes in practice when need be. A limited Arthur could also mean more playing time for rookie Juancho Hernangomez at the four spot.

The Nuggets will hold media day on Monday with training camp beginning Tuesday in Omaha. Denver is planning on six practices during their time in Nebraska, three of which will be two-a-days. Their last practice is scheduled for Oct. 2 with their first preseason game coming on Oct. 3 in Calgary, Alberta where they take on the Toronto Raptors.

After a 2015-16 season where virtually everyone on the roster missed time with various injuries and ailments, let’s hope Arthur’s reoccurring knee issues from last season quiet down after this procedure.
