DENVER — Today the Colorado Rockies promoted right-handed pitcher German Marquez. Marquez is still just 21-years-old and came into the organization along with Jake McGee in the trade that sent Corey Dickerson and Kevin Padlo to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Marquez began the season in Double-A with the Hartford Yard Goats. He pitched 135.2 innings over 21 games with a 2.85 ERA. That performance earned him the honor of being named the starter on the End of Season All-Star team.

He was called up to Triple-A Albuquerque and made his first start on August 10, ultimately throwing 31 innings in five games with a 4.35 ERA in the incredibly hitter-friendly PCL.

Interestingly, although his ERA clearly spiked, his peripheral numbers actually improved. His K rate rose slightly from 8.36 to 8.42 but he also dropped his BB rate from 2.19 to 1.74. That’s all pretty darned good considering half the ballparks in the PCL play like pre-humidor Coord Field.

Along with the call-ups of Jordan Patterson and Pat Vailaika, Marquez represent the 12th potential MLB debut for the Rockies in 2016.
