The Denver Nuggets hope to have 2015 second-round pick and Sevilla point guard Nikola Radicevic with them at Summer League this July, but may be looking to add one of his teammates to their roster as well.

Ondrej Balvin, a 7-foot-1 center and native of the Czech Republic, who’s been playing with Sevilla for the last few years, worked out for the Nuggets twice over the past month and is hoping for a spot on their Summer League roster.

The first was reportedly during a free agent workout the Nuggets held on June 18 that featured Balvin, Russ Smith, and Darius Adams. Smith appeared in 15 games with the New Orleans Pelicans last season and has agreed to play with the Portland Trail Blazer’s Summer League team, while Adams, a former undrafted free agent, played last season internationally for Laboral Kutxa in the ACB.

Balvin was reportedly back in Denver for another workout this week.

The 23-year-old big man averaged 9.6 points, 7.4 rebounds and close to a block per game last season for Sevilla. He’s an efficient player who lives around the rim and shot 66.2 percent from the field over 34 games in the ACB this year.

After Balvin scored 20 points on 9-9 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds against Real Madrid earlier this season, Kristaps Porzingiss, who was in attendance and also played for Estudiantes before he was drafted by the Knicks last summer, stated, “he is ready for the NBA.”

If Balvin doesn’t land on a Summer League roster next month he’ll likely head back to Europe where he will have multiple suitors. Valencia, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and others would all be in pursuit of Balvin’s services.

The Nuggets’ Summer League roster is slowly taking shape. Denver has commitments from No. 15 overall pick Juan Hernangomez and local products Josh Scott and Josh Adams. Jimmer Fredette and now Balvin are possibilities as well.

Denver will likely release a finalized roster and hold a Summer League minicamp next week prior to the team leaving for Las Vegas.
