Gary Harris named to USA Select Team, per report

What a year it’s been for Gary Harris

After a rookie year where the former Michigan St. guard only saw the court when the game was out of hand, the 21-year-old rebounded in a big way this past season. Harris started in all 76 of the games he appeared in, averaged 12.3 points and shot 35.4 percent from 3-point range in 32.1 minutes per game.

For his efforts, Harris earned one first and one third place vote for Most Improved Player, but his real prize comes this summer.

Per Cleveland.com’s Chris Haynes, Harris has accepted an offer to play with the USA Basketball Select Team this summer.

Players who are named to the select team scrimmage against the national team to help prepare them for the Olympics and other international basketball events. They don’t play international competition, but the experience they gain playing against the NBA’s best is worth it.

Harris joins Marcus Smart, D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, C.J. McCollum, Myles Turner, Brice Johnson, Devin Booker, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Stanley Johnson, and Zach LaVine, who have all reportedly been named to the team.

Klay Thomspon, Draymond Green, Paul George and Kyrie Irving are examples of players who started with the select team, but then graduated to play with the national team.

The future is bright for Harris.
