Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez recorded the 1,000th hit of his career in the top of the sixth inning against Rasiel Iglesias of the Cincinnati Reds Wednesday afternoon. The hit was a bloop single that landed in front of center fielder Billy Hamilton.
Gonzalez is off to a blistering start in 2016, picking up right where he left off in 2015. So far, he is hitting .351/.393/.649 with four home runs. He has failed to reach base only once this season, breaking a 21-game hit streak and starting a new one the very next game.
Gonzalez has told BSN Denver that he attributes his production entirely to being healthy again and Walt Weiss has echoed those sentiments. CarGo also told us that he believes in the talent on this team and expects to compete. That remains to be seen, and Rockies fans have gotten used to hot starts signifying nothing, but Gonzalez is doing his part to lead a Rockies team that thus far has played pretty good baseball in 2016.
